Lakes District continued.....

Well, we occupied ourselves the next day with a walk into Windermere, and after looking aroundh the town thought we would walk back to Bowness via the lake walk ( we have to keep up our training). This seemed to be very simple from the map we had - but..... No we took a wrong turn and ended up asking directions from some road maintenance guys...... They were very nice and put us on the right track - we were then looking lost again (,this was a simple walk ) and a couple from London ( who had a holiday house in the area) came to our rescue and showed us the way to the lake. The walk was beautiful - lovely scenery.
We followed this with a cruise on the Lake. This went for about 1 hour to Ambelside, showed some of the lovely lakeside houses and surrounding scenery.

What did amuse us though was that once we got back to the shore, there was a huge number of people sitting among the ducks and swans very happy  to be having their break among the droppings from these creatures - each to their own!
Peter reluctantly stood in this area to have this pic taken ( see all the white bits) This did not stop us from having a great relaxing day and after about 7 hours we ventured home
We  also found that they knew we were arriving and our hotel was waiting
.
The next we took ourselves off to anther area we had not been to - through Ambleside to Kirkstone Pass heading towards Keswick and Cockermouth. This drive was spectacular - thank goodness at the top of the pass ( at the pub) we were able to stop and admire the views. Such a contrast to the. Forrest ares.

We found the small town of Cockmouth lovely - in comparison to other areas the main street was wide and tree lined. We were unsure about parking as all the signs said "disc parking", anyway we parked in the Main Street and popped into the closest shop to ask - the very nice shop keeper said "you need one of these" and then gave us the disc to enable us to park - nice people.. Fletcher Christian and William Wordsworth lived in this town. Irene also found a butcher who gave her a bit more info on the sheep she has been so interested in.
On the way back to Windermere we returned through Grassmere, which seemed to us that it could be the English version of Berrima or Bowral - very nice. It is where William Wordsworth is buried.. It is a very pretty little village.
