York

As is usual for us we were all organised and on the road to York by 8.00am, which meant we arrived at the hotel a little after 10 - we checked in ( key to be picked up later) and took off to explore.
The hotel is across the road to the Monk Bar - so wonderful 5 minutes and we are walking through the wall into the City of York. (Hotel is very good, although we had to change room as we could not access wifi from our room - all good).
We spent the next five hours exploring ( bugger we are only here for two days). Decided the hop on hop off bus would be a good option, with our "seniors" discount and a further 10% discount by producing the tickets we had used in Bath - worked out to be an economical way to understand our surroundings. Both of us really enjoyed the arvo .
We waved to John Monks university, walked the wall ( Irene coming to terms with her phobia of not having a handrail and not able to go near an edge with any height ) - we just loved the place. Such history, at times it is difficult to understand how these structures are still standing.
We will be back tomorrow to do further exploring among the streets and a visit to the Minster is own the agenda.
We finished off the day with a lovely meal in a little pub the Silk Oak, talking to a couple from Perth and Peter tasting the local Yorkshire ales ( Ronnie Richardson would like this)
